    • WPI Odeum , Rubin Student Center

Learn from the past with history lessons offered by graduates of the school of hard knocks at our 2014-15 season kickoff event at WPI. Key drivers that have made Massachusetts a hotbed of innovation across time will be the topic for keynote speaker Dr. Robert Krim of Framingham State University’s Entrepreneur Innovation Center. A combination of digital and live drama with actress Lori Glaser, Krim’s presentation on local breakthrough concepts since the 1600s will inspire you.

History also offers its share of war stories, with cautionary tales told by John P. Joseph, co-founder and president of DataGravity; David Frogel, president, AnchorOps; and Marc Girolimetti, founder, Red Raider Studios. Reconnect with members of The Venture Forum and make new connections at WPI on September 9.

See the WPI Campus map for directions.

With an abundance of academic degrees -- joint PhD/MBA, economics and history MAs, as well as a Harvard BA, Robert Krim combines 25 years as an entrepreneur (two businesses, each lasting a dozen years) with cutting-edge branding ideas. Returning to academics in 2010, Krim taught as a fulltime Clark MBA program professor for 3 years. Earlier this year, he founded and now leads Framingham State University’s Entrepreneur Innovation Center while serving a fulltime teaching professor. His earlier research and business models led the UN to send him to Colombia to help contain drug cartels, and a Fulbright in New Zealand to help with heritage tourism.

David Frogel is the President and Founder of AnchorOps, a media finance solutions company based in Westborough, MA. Large media buying firms use AnchorOps software and ePayment platform to streamline the complex world of media finance, reduce risk, and improve agency profit margins.

Frogel’s previous experiences in media and software led him to establish AnchorOps in 2012. David was previously the COO/CFO of Blitz Media, a Waltham-based media-buying agency. Prior to Blitz, Frogel established and led two professional services teams for startup software companies that are still thriving. At Courion Corporation and NewRiver Investor Communications, he led enterprise-wide implementations for many large corporations.
He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a BA in history.

Marc Girolimetti is a 17-year veteran of the software and interactive agency worlds. He has founded three companies and been part of four more start-ups covering news, entertainment, advertising and gaming. His latest venture, Red Raider Studios, is focused on smarter gaming, while they create a series of titles to sharpen the brain. Their first title, Silo, was released in 2014. A graduate of Babson College, Girolimetti lives in the Boston area and believes that the Harlem Globetrotters pinball machine is the key to world peace.

John P. Joseph is currently the co-founder and president of DataGravity, an emerging high tech company focused on delivering insights from stored business data. He has more than 30 years of experience applying a customer-focused approach to multiple disciplines spanning computer component design, process engineering, metallurgical science, product management and go-to-market strategy, as well as deep enterprise and midmarket expertise.

Prior to co-founding DataGravity, John served as vice president of enterprise solutions marketing at Dell for three years after the $1.4B acquisition of EqualLogic in 2008. He joined EqualLogic in 2003 as vice president of marketing and product management to launch the company and the PS Series products into the rapidly growing iSCSI SAN market, ultimately achieving the No. 1 market share. Before joining EqualLogic, Joseph held product management and marketing positions in the enterprise disk drive business for Quantum and Maxtor Corporations.

In the early 1990s, Joseph held various design and leadership roles in the high-end VAX systems group at Digital Equipment Corporation. He serves on the Advisory board of OneCloud Labs and is a member of the Tech Advisor Network to the WPI School of Business and an advisor to the Graduate School of Business at Clark University.
